The 2000s

The 2000s, dawn of a new millennium, saw protests against globalization, fears over climate change, a financial crisis and a scandal over MPs' expenses, a smoking ban and the scourge of foot-and-mouth disease. Britain was drawn into a war against terror and controversial invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. Amid the turmoil, a smoking ban did little to dampen the celebration of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, celebrities’ antics entranced the public, and the social media boom broke down the traditional reserve of the Briton. These stories and many more are pictured in this book through almost 300 unique photographs.
