It was a century in which footballers evolved from local heroes to international celebrities, clubs became quoted companies and audiences grew to millions through television coverage.

FOOTBALL reveals how each step was documented by press photographers who captured every tackle, foul, glorious goal and moment of tragedy, every triumph and every defeat - now you can join them on the sidelines and view almost 300 images from the Press Association's archives. Hand-picked by Press Association Images' own archivists, many of these pictures have lain unseen since they were first published in the newspapers and magazines of their day.
